There are several types of Cal Grant awards. Each of the Cal Grants are for students pursuing an undergraduate associate's or bachelor's degree or an occupational training program. CalGrants can be used at any California community college, UCS, CSUS, private and most career/technical schools. If you are a high school senior, a recent high school graduate or you just got your GED, and you meet all the requirements and you apply by the deadline, you are guaranteed to receive a Cal Grant Entitlement award. Some grants have GPA minimums. To be eligible for a Cal Grant you must: Submit the FAFSA and your verified Cal Grant GPA by the deadline, be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen, Be a California resident when you graduated from high school, Have a Social Security number, Attend a qualifying California college, Not have a bachelor’s or professional degree, Have financial need based on your college costs, Have family income and assets below the established ceilings, Meet any minimum GPA requirements, Be in a program leading to an undergraduate degree or certificate, Be enrolled at least half time, Have registered with U.S. Selective Service (most males), Not owe a refund on a state or federal grant, or be in default on a student loan. |

William & Mary Merit Scholarships are financial awards given to William and Mary students with proven scholastic ability. There are three merit scholarships offered by William and Mary; each is handled through the Admission Office. The William and Mary Scholar Award is presented each year to a small, select group of students who have overcome unusual adversity and/or would add to the diversity of the campus community. All applicants are considered for the award and no separate application is needed. The James Monroe Scholars Program is a designation offered each year to the top 10-15% of all admitted students to the College of William and Mary. All first-year applicants are considered for this program and no separate application is needed. The Murray Scholars Program is William & Mary's most selective scholarship. Finalists typically rank in the top 1% of their class, score a 1500 and higher on the SAT (Critical Reading plus Math) and take the most demanding curriculum available to them. While some of the variables that influence Murray Scholar designations are quantitative, others are more subjective. These include students' application essays, extracurricular involvements, leadership, letters of recommendation, and evidence of intellectual engagement. Emory offers scholarships based on academic merit to a select group of incoming first-year students. Most of the students have been National Merit finalists or semifinalists, and almost all have won distinction beyond the classroom, have held principal leadership offices in their secondary schools or other organizations, and played significant roles in community and volunteer programs. For Goizueta Scholars, demonstrated interest in business is required. Recipients receive scholarships renewable for four years of undergraduate study, provided they maintain high standards of personal and academic excellence. Scholarships range from two-thirds tuition awards to full-cost scholarships. These scholarships require that a student be nominated by appropriate officials of his or her high school by November 1 of the senior year. Miami has a limited number of special scholarships which are automatically awarded to students who meet the award criteria. For the remainder of our general scholarships, all students who apply for admission by January 31 and are admitted to Miami University are considered for the many general scholarships we award to incoming freshmen; no separate application is required. Most scholarship recipients have scored 30 or better on the ACT (1320 on the SAT I - CR & M) and rank in the top 10% of their graduating class.
To help simplify your admission process, Miami University does not require a separate application for our general freshmen scholarships. Students who wish to apply for the Harrison Scholarship must apply for admission and also submit the Harrison Scholarship application by November 3.
In addition to the scholarships awarded by the Office of Student Financial Assistance, many academic departments award scholarships to students enrolled in their major fields, and the Office of Student Affairs awards scholarships through the Scholar Leader Program. There is a single scholarship application for entering freshman academic scholarships, which include the Chancellor’s, Silas Hunt, and University Scholarships. Students can begin this process by registering online or downloading a paper version of the application on the Apply Online page of the High School Seniors section of our website. This single application will allow a student to apply for 90% of merit-based scholarships available to entering freshmen. Scholarship applicants must also apply for admission to the University of Arkansas via a separate Admission Application. The scholarship recipients are in the top 5% of all students nationally, based on GPA, strength of curriculum, ACT and/or SAT scores, writing skills, demonstrated leadership, success in national scholarship competitions, and many other areas of achievement. The scholarships are awarded competitively. Candidates for scholarships typically have a minimum of a 3.75 GPA and 28 ACT/1240 SAT. This year's topic introduces students to George Washington's famous statement about "mere" toleration in his 1790 letter to the Jewish congregation of Newport, Rhode Island. Students will identify the basic principles of religious liberty espoused in this primary document and will further research and asess how well the US has lived up to Washington's ideal. In addition to the monetary award, the first-place winner and his or her teacher (or other adult chaperone) will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Newport, Rhode Island in mid-August 2009 for the annual VIP reading of President Washington's historic letter. The Berkeley Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to new and continuing students on the basis of both academic merit and financial need. Transfer students from other 4 year universities or community colleges must have a minimum 2.8 GPA, and some level of financial need. Two scholarship funds are available to eligible students: General Scholarships and The Alice Newell Joslyn Medical Scholarship. Open to San Diego high school or college students. The Selection Process is based on a combination of factors: individual’s financial need and merit, essay, letters of recommendation, community service and a personal interview. Final candidates will be asked to report for a formal interview and based upon final evaluation, recipients are chosen and notified. With the cooperation of San Diego County school districts, the community and the BECA website, the Scholarship Committee screens and evaluates all applications and identifies candidates for scholarship considerations. The Scholarship Program combines vital financial assistance with highly effective programs. The College Advisement and Leadership Program (CALP) is the key support system that ensures the academic success of Scholars through graduation and beyond. CALP provides skill-building seminars, counseling, peer mentoring and leadership development activities. Internships and mentoring relationships with corporate partners further equip and prepare our Scholars for their chosen careers.
The Program annually supports 500 TELACU Scholars in underserved areas in California, Illinois, Texas and New York. Low-income, first-generation college students may be eligible to apply for one of the scholarships listed. More specific criteria are listed for each program. Some require attendance at a partnering college or university. |

Applications are received from students in public as well as Catholic high schools in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Illinois. To apply, students must be of the Catholic faith and of Italian heritage (or children or grand children of non-Italian ICF members) and meet academic, financial need, and character requirements. Recipients must maintain a GPA of at least 3.2 and live within the Roman Catholic Dioceses of California, Nevada, Illinois and Arizona, only where Branches of the Federation are established. First year scholarship winners are eligible for second, third, and fourth year awards of $500, $600, and $1,000 respectively. Applications for the upcoming year are available end of November, and the Scholarship committee meets in April to review applications and make its selections. The awards are made in the summer months following completion of the previous school year. |
